Mexicans on the bicycle with aid of Dutch companies

Newsletter| 3 December 2010

In co-operation with the Dutch business community the Dutch Embassy in Mexico has developed a toolkit to promote the bicycle use and the security of the cyclist in Mexico.

The immediate cause for this toolkit is the  200th anniversary of Mexican independence and the 100th anniversary of the  Mexican revolution

The Dutch ambassador in Mexico has presented the bicycle toolkit to the Mexican federal authorities on 25 November 2010. Amid great public interest the Mexican Deputy Ministers of Environment and Social Development have received the toolkit, consisting of a cassette with six handbooks, a website and CD-Roms.

The toolkit has been developed especially for this occasion by the Dutch Foundation I-CE (Interface for Cycling Expertise) and the Mexican ITDP (Institute for Transportation development and Policy).

Most of participating Dutch companies (ING, Dragamex, Shell, Vopak, Powercem, Unilever, Philips, Randstad, Rabobank and Leaseplan) were represented at high level. At this occasion KLM Airfrance gave a bicycle as a present to both deputy ministers.

After this presentation to the federal government the toolkit will also be made available to Guadalajara, Mexico city, Monterrey, Aguascalientes, Leon and probable Puebla - important cities for the Netherlands.
